The authorities have started the installation work of the gas pipeline along the Padma Bridge’s pillars at Jajira point in Shariatpur.
Dewan Abdul kader, executive engineer of the Padma Bridge project, said the installation work began around 3:00pm yesterday and four pipes were installed between the 42nd and 41st pillar of the bridge till noon today.
A total of 531 gas pipes — each 12 metres long, 760 millimetres in diameter and weighing 5.67 tonnes — will be set up along the 6.15-kilometre Padma Bridge, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.
China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Company Limited is implementing the installation work of the gas pipelines.
According to the engineers, various examinations are done before installing the gas pipes.
Two substations will be constructed at Mawa and Jajira. Gas will come from Narayanganj into the Mawa substation and from there go to Jajira substation through the bridge. The gas will reach country’s southern districts through Jajira substation.
