A woman was killed today, allegedly by her elder sister, over property dispute in Pirojpur’s Indurkani upazila.
The deceased Maknu Akhter (40) was the former head teacher of a primary school, reports our correspondent quoting police.
M Shamim Ahmed, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Indurkani Police Station, said that the incident took place at Parerhat Bandar area this morning. The main accused, Kamrunnahar Minu, along with her two daughters and son were detained by police.
After receiving a written complaint in this regard, legal action will be taken against them, said the OC, adding that the body of the deceased has been sent to Pirojpur District Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Kamal Hossain, husband of the victim said, Maknu and Minu had been involved in a long-running dispute over their late father Abdur Rab Talukder’s property.
They agreed to hold an arbitration at their home in Parerhat so they came to their ancestral house on Thursday. However, as Minu later refused to attend the arbitration, Kamal was planning to file a complaint with the police station today, he said.
Early today, Minu, with her two daughters — Sumana and Mohana — and son Siam, attacked Maknu with sticks, said Kamal, adding that his wife lost consciousness at one point. After rescuing her, he took her to Pirojpur District Hospital, where the on-duty doctor declared her dead.
