Abdul Malek, the former driver of Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS) who was sentenced today to 30 years’ rigorous imprisonment for possessing illegal firearms and ammunition, said he was framed in a false case.

“Rab did not find anything in my house,” he said while being escorted by law enforcers out of the court following the verdict.

“Rab has framed me in a false case, I will go to higher court for fair trial,” he shouted, aiming at the journalists.

Malek was arrested on September 20 of last year from Kamarpara area under Turag Police Station in Dhaka. Rab also recovered a foreign-made pistol, a magazine, five rounds of bullets, Tk 1.5 lakh in fake currency, a laptop and a mobile phone from his possession.

Malek possessed more than Tk 100 crore in wealth, Rab claimed.

Rab primarily assumed that Malek accumulated wealth by maintaining good relations with DGHS’s high-ranking officials.

Later, two cases — one for possessing arms and ammunition and the other for possessing fake currencies — were filed against him with Turag Police Station.

Malek and his wife were also sued for amassing wealth illegally.
