Police last night rescued two girls who went missing from the capital’s Mirpur on September 29, while two others from the same area remain missing since Friday afternoon.

In a separate development, police on Saturday arrested four accused in a case filed over the disappearance of three female friends, aged between 15 and 16, also from Mirpur.

The two girls rescued last night — aged around 10 and 13 — had gone missing from Ansar camp area. Detective branch of police rescued them from the capital’s Sadarghat area, Manas Kumar Podder, deputy commissioner of DB (Mirpur Division), told The Daily Star.

“We rescued the two girls and no other people were found with them. They live in neighbouring houses in Mirpur. We called their parents,” the official said, adding that they were investigating the incident.

Two other girls, aged 13 and 14, went missing from Mirpur’s Janata Housing area on Friday and have not been found yet.

Mostajizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, told The Daily Star that one of the two is a schoolgirl and the other is a domestic help in the same house.

Two general diaries were filed with the police station in these connections, police said.

Also on Friday, three friends disappeared from Mirpur’s Pallabi area, and the elder sister of one of them filed a case with Pallabi Police Station the following day.

One of them took Tk 6 lakh in cash, another took 2.5 tola of gold ornaments and the other took Tk 75,000, Pallabi Police Station OC Parvez Islam said.

They also took their SSC certificates, birth certificates and several mobile phones from their houses, he said.

Police could not trace them as of yet.

Rakibullah (20), was placed on a two-day remand on Sunday while the remand hearing of three other arrestees will be held after determining their age.

All four were arrested by Pallabi police from their Mirpur residences on Saturday.
