A man died today after being electrocuted while connecting a meter from a main power line at Bhandaria in Pirojpur. The accident occurred in the Mia Bari area of Bhandaria municipal town.

The deceased was identified as Jewel Mollah (35), son of Chunnu Mollah of Bamna upazila of Barguna district. Chunnu Mollah works as a lineman for West Zone Power Distribution Company Ltd in Bhandaria (WZPDCL), reports our local correspondent.

According to local sources, Jewel was electrocuted at around 3pm today while connecting a meter of a nearby house. The onlookers rescued Jewel and took him to Bhandaria Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Abdus Salam, a residential engineer at WZPDCL Bhandaria office, said Jewel was not an employee of their office. He used to do electrical work in nearby houses.

However, no case has been filed in this regard yet, according to Md Masumur Rahman Bishwas, officer-in-charge of Bhandaria Police Station.
