Chief Minister of India’s Uttar Pradesh and Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Yogi Adityanath, today said those celebrating Pakistan’s victory against India in the recent T20 World Cup match will face sedition charge.

A tweet was posted from the official handle of Adityanath’s office in this regard, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

So far, five people have been taken into custody in the state for allegedly using indecent words against the Indian cricket team, according to police.

A man from Budaun, Uttar Pradesh, was arrested in a sedition case yesterday, Senior Superintendent of Police OP Singh said.

The arrestee, Niaz, had allegedly posted the picture of Pakistani flag and wrote comments in support of Pakistan on Facebook after the match, according to a complaint filed against him by Punit Shakya of Hindu Jagran Manch.

Niaz was booked for sedition and under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act on Tuesday and sent to jail the following day, the officer said.

Three students from Jammu and Kashmir, who are studying at an engineering college in Agra were arrested last evening for allegedly committing “cyber terrorism” by updating their WhatsApp status to hail Pakistan’s victory against India in the T20 World Cup cricket match three days ago.
