An elderly couple was killed in Dinajpur’s Nawabganj upazila allegedly by their son and his hired goons on November 4.
Yesterday, a court in the district sent three men, including the son of the victims, to jail after police arrested and produced them before the court in connection with the murder.
The arrestees are Abdul Motin Mithu, 50, the victims’ son, Rajon Mia, 25, and Ujjal Hossain, 25, of the same upazila, said police, adding that they were arrested from different areas on Wednesday.
At a press briefing, Anwar Hossain, superintendent of police in Dinajpur, said the elderly couple — Hafizur Rahman 75, and his wife Fensi Begum, 60 — were found dead at their home.
Abdul Malek, the youngest son of the victim couple, filed a robbery and murder case without mentioning any name with Nawabganj Police Station. Later, the police started an investigation.
The police investigation found that Mithu often asked his parents for the documents of the family-owned land but his father always denied doing so, the SP said.
At one point, he hatched a plan to loot the documents from his parents’ house with hired goons.
As per the plan, they intruded into the elderly couple’s home on November 4. Following a tussle that night, the miscreants strangled the couple to death, the SP added.
