Police last night arrested a man for raping and killing a six-year-old in Jashore’s Bagherpara upazila.

The accused Nazmul Haque (32) is a neighbour of the deceased — from Thakurkathi village of the upazila, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Bagherpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Firoz Uddin.

The child was missing since yesterday morning, according to her family. Victim’s family members went to Nazmul’s house in the evening to look for her. He was digging a hole near his house at the time.

Nazmul tried to flee, but he was apprehended by locals. Based on his information, the child’s body was found in a sack under his bed. Police recovered the body and arrested Nazmul.

Nazmul primarily admitted to raping and killing the child during interrogation, said the OC, adding that the body was taken to the Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
