A woman was killed after she was hit by a motorcycle while crossing a road near Ramna Park in the capital this evening.

The deceased was identified as Trishna Saha (50). She was returning to her house in Bijoynagar after taking a walk in the park, confirmed Sub-Inspector Zulhas Uddin Bhuiyan of Ramna Police Station.

 The biker has been detained and we have seized the motorcycle, he said.

“The accident took place around 5:45 pm when she was crossing the road near Gate-1 of the park. A speeding motorcycle hit her and dragged her for several yards, leaving her critically injured,” said Kalpana Paul, a friend of the deceased who was with her at the time.

She was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where on-duty doctors declared her dead around 6:30 pm, said Kalpana, who narrowly survived the accident.

The motorcycle fell to the ground on impact and the rider also sustained injuries, said police.

Mithi Saha, daughter of the victim, said her mother used to walk in the park regularly as she was diagnosed with diabetes.

Hailing from Tangail, Trishna Saha used to live with her husband and two daughters in Dhaka.
