Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) today suspended two of its senior officials temporarily on charges of irregularities in purchase of equipment following direction of Anti-Corruption-Commission (ACC).
The officials are Chief Engineer (mechanical) Aminul Islam and Deputy Chief Finance and Accounts Officer Sandipon Chowdhury.
CPA issued a suspension letter yesterday in this regard. The Daily Star got a copy of this letter.
According to sources, ACC last week sent a letter to the shipping ministry for taking divisional punitive action against the duo.
In the letter it was stated that the ACC took the decision of taking divisional punitive action against the officials as their involvement in purchase of five Auto Voltage Regulators in violation of Public Procurement Role (PPR) was proved.
The ACC asked in the letter to take steps against the duo by the CPA and accordingly inform the ACC about its step.
The letter stated that limited tender method (LTM) was followed instead of open tender method during purchase of the five equipment while no advertisement of tender was published in newspapers which was in violation of PPR 2008.
A case was filed with Bandar Police Station on October 23, 2013 in this connection.
In its suspension letter, CPA mentioned that Limited Tender Method was followed for purchasing the five Auto Voltage Regulators in connivance with one M/S Janata Enterprise having address of DT Road Dhanialapara, Chattogram.
Since involvement of the two in such irregularities was proved during the ACC investigation, CPA suspended them, the letter said.
The suspension was effective from November 8.
