There will be moderate to heavy rainfall in Dhaka and the southern part of the country today and tomorrow due to deep depression caused by cyclone Jawad in the Bay of Bengal.

“The country will be dry from then on and the temperature will fall  by two to three degrees Celsius at night from Wednesday,” said Meteorologist Bazlur Rashid of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Meanwhile, over 1,000 tourists remain stranded on St Martin’s island as the authorities yesterday suspended operation of passenger vessels to and from the island for two days, reports UNB.

Pervez Chowdhury, upazila nirbahi officer in Teknaf, said the local administration suspended operations of all types of vessels, issuing cautionary signal 3.

The suspension will continue until the weather improves, the UNO said.

According to the BMD, the deep depression lies over Northwest Bay and adjoining West-central Bay. It is likely to move towards the north-north easterly direction and weaken gradually.

Officials said the country will witness two cold waves this month, the first of which may happen after the second week of this month, said Meteorologist Bazlur.
