Over 500 trucks laden with goods were stuck at the Paturia ferry ghat today due to suspension of ferry service on Shimulia-Banglabazar route.

Ferry service on Shimulia-Banglabazar route has been suspended due to strong current in the Padma river, and so the vehicles are using the Patuaria ghat to cross the river, our Manikganj correspondent reports quoting Md Zillur Rahman, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Aricha zone office deputy general manager (commerce).

Passenger buses, microbuses, private cars, motorcycles, and goods-laden trucks for emergency service are being allowed on the ferries, the official said.

Seventeen out of 18 ferries are operating between the route.
