Over the last two-and-a-half years, courts in Bangladesh have confiscated around Tk 450 crore of wealth in graft cases, said the Anti-Corruption Commission Secretary Anwar Hossain Howlader today.
“During the same period, courts have frozen wealth worth around Tk 2,100 crore, based on the request of the ACC,” he said while addressing reporters this afternoon.
The anti-graft watchdog is working hard to ensure that people who created wealth using illegal means cannot enjoy them, he said.
According to the commission, 29 accounts in Singapore, Australia, and Canada have been frozen at the same time. Moveable properties worth around Tk 1,167 crore and immovable properties worth Tk 324.59 crore were frozen until September.
Last year, moveable and immovable properties worth about Tk 332 crore were frozen and in 2019, it was Tk 233 crore.
